Description of Coverages 

 
Here is a brief overview of the most common types of coverages.

Animal Mortality: 

You are covered for death of the animal from any cause including accident, illness, or disease. Death occurring during transportation is also included, as is theft of the animal. 

Horse Mortality Supplemental: 

Major Medical: 
(May only be purchased with an Animal Mortality policy.) 

Includes any procedure other than maintenance (shots, worming, etc.) over the deductible.

Free Emergency Colic Surgery: 

Includes free transportation to a facility and aftercare. This part of the policy cannot be excluded even if you have a guarantee from a company plan for worming. (Still gives free protection for extras.)

Loss of Use: 
(May only be purchased with an Animal Mortality policy.) 

Applies to accident, illness and/or disease. Yearly x-rays of front feet and hocks are mandatory. Coverage applies only once, to first use of the policy, and only for a permanent condition that renders the horse or animal unfit for use permanently.  

For example, pulled suspensory which requires six months of stall rest then return to use does not qualify for loss of use. 

Loss of Use - Accidental 

Lower premium cost, but limited to accident only on a clearly defined day at a clearly defined time. An example of this coverage would be a horse jumping over a fence and chipping a knee, which renders the horse unfit to jump as witnessed by the spectators on the particular day at the show the horse is insured for.

Care, Custody and Control 
(Bailee Liability) 

You are covered for sums judged against you in the case of either negligence on your part or the part of an employee, or an accident ( death or injury) which occurs while animal is in your care, custody or control. 

Liability 

You are covered for sums judged against you in the case of either negligence on your part or the part of an employee. This includes the cost of your legal defense. This coverage is available to the following classes: 

Instructor, Owner, Trainer, Farm, Club, Riding Academy, Public Stable, Carriage Rides, Pony Parties and Clinics.

Club Liability: 

Same as liability, but applies only to the spectators at any event, including exhibitors who are in the gallery as spectators. Exhibitors may obtain accident coverage for a nominal cost.
