PONIES! PONIES! PONIES!
In the process of their wanderings, the little darlings also like to test the strength of every fence, nook and cranny. Escape artists, every one. Once off of your property the homeowners liability may not cover the damage done to other peoples' property. Check with your homeowner company. For a modest sum you can get separate coverage for liability and rest assured that at home, show, trail or anywhere, the damage or injury will get taken care of.
As a pony owner, I can tell you how endearing they are. Smart and cute beyond belief. Our ponies are sturdy creatures so insurance is not prime in the mind of the pony owner, however, an expensive show pony should be insured for mortality to make the owner whole in the "God forbid" situation. The extra coverages of surgical, major medical and loss of use are up to the individual owners. Insuring the tack is another worthwhile risk to think about
Remember I said that ponies are smart? Taking that into consideration, even if you don't want to insure for anything else, think about personal liability. My own pony was smart enough to slip under a fence and graze in the backyard. Fortunately it did not leave the premises... THIS TIME!
Just remember to give your pony a hug and a kiss and the rewards will be great.
