OFF TO CAMP...FUN OR FOLLY?
So, you run a summer camp and want to be fully protected. What do you need to keep things going if there is a disaster? First you need a liability policy for bodily injury and property damage. If you have a horse program you will want to consider an accident policy as well. The reason for this is simple. It can pay for the small incident and keep your liability intact. After all, you will want to run the camp again and companies go by incidents, not amount paid out. Save the liability for the BIG one. Also be sure to let your company know if there is a swimming pool on premise and that you have a trained life guard on duty. Also, you may have a snack bar and that exposure needs to be covered too. Camp owners who do horse related activities and lease horses for the summer will want care, custody and control for the horses leased naming the actual owner as loss payee.
If you are a camper, your parents would be sure to check their homeowner policy to be sure they have high enough limits in case the child gets into trouble such as a fight with another child and injures them or if they get wild and do damage to camp property. Some camps let you ½ lease a horse for the summer so check and see if that homeowner policy will pick that exposure up or if you need a separate one for yourself.
Camp is and should be a happy carefree time. The right coverage can make it so.
