INSURING YOUR BREEDING STOCK
The basic mortality is the same in both cases as is surgical and or major medical. However, you might want to add "PROSPECTIVE FOAL INSURANCE." Coverage is provided in the event that as unborn foal is aborted, stillborn or dies through the death of the mare. If the foal is born alive, coverage is provided for death caused by accident, illness, injury or disease for a period of 24 HOURS AFTER BIRTH. For an additional charge, coverage on the newborn foal can be extended to 30 days or 12 months. (This coverage is available only on mares that have been bred or a no-guarantee season. The price of the no-guarantee season is the maximum amount of insurance written.
The Stallion coverages are in two forms of "FERTILITY INSURANCE."
1. Stallion infertility extension commonly known as Accident, Illness and Disease. This provides for losses by the insured stallion becoming impotent or infertile or incapable of serving mares as a result of accidental illness or disease during the policy period.
2.Stallion Congenital Infertility extension (first season at stud.) This should be written with the Accident, Illness or Disease to provide the most comprehensive coverages. This provides only the first season at stud and only for infertility or partial infertility or inability to service mares during the first season. It does NOT provide the accident, illness or disease.
Just the addition of a small amount of endorsements at rates ranging from 1-2% above the basic mortality can safeguard your investment.
