HOW TO PROTECT YOUR CHRISTMAS HORSE GIFTS
Just imagine, it finally happened! That $4000 Hermes saddle was under the tree. How can I make sure that I can protect this wonderful gift.
First, look to your homeowner policy to see if they will put it on a floater. This will insure that it is covered both on and off the premises without a deductible (unless your company insists on one.) You may have automatic coverage on your homeowner with a specified deductible but it will only cover you for the perils named in your particular form of coverage.
You can always get a Tack and Equipment Floater if none of the above happen to fit your needs. (You may rent a place and not have a renters policy.) Or, you may want a comprehensive package for the tack and equipment that puts your mind at ease. Most Tack and equipment floaters have a deductible on them.
No policy covers wear and tear or gradual deterioration, War, Nuclear explosion and an assortment of minor others. Always read the policy documents.
The most important peril covered is THEFT. Next is fire and then vandalism. If you can afford the loss don't consider a policy but since we all need to replace our equipment it is probably wise to get one.
