HORSE TRANSPORTATION, A RISKY BUSINESS?

PROFESSIONAL horse transporters have access to a variety of policies through regular markets, the assigned risk and a special NEW PROGRAM, but what about the average show person or even pleasure rider who has a trailer and "TAKES" a friend to a show or for a trail ride. Believe it or not, even if you don't take money, you are responsible for the horse on your trailer.

If you do this more often than not, you should have a coverage known as either care, custody and control or Bailee liability. This protects against the injury to a horse either in transit or while loading and unloading. It could also protect you if your friend says "hold my horse for a minute" and the horse gets hurt.

It is amazing how quickly friendship can disappear in situations involving monetary consideration. Why risk it? The cost is not that great if you do this on a more than casual basis e.g. once or twice a season. (Still a risk, but less.)

As always I say, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

Coverage can be obtained for as little $200 a year with a 100 mile radius.
