The purpose of this column is to keep the public informed of new developments and coverages available. Well, one company has done something to enhance the mortality coverage and give you FREE OF ADITIONAL COST, emergency colic treatment.

This is how it works. You u insure your horse for the regular mortality policy and get $2500 emergency colic treatment coverage in ADDITION TO the value of your horse on the declarations page, provided the value is at least $5,000. If not, the coverage is 1/2 the value of the horse. For example:

Mortality coverage $3500 the free emergency colic coverage is $1750.

Combined with surgical and/or major medical you could have up to $7500 for colic which is certainly more realistic to cover the actual services.

Also, some companies are either eliminating payment plans or changing the m without informing the insureds. This results in confusion for all. And sometimes economic hardship. Check with your agent to determine what you can do about it.
